Longest Lasting Kitchen Items

Nowadays, it seems like there’s always a new and shiny kitchen gadget, utensil, or item that people are raving about. While it can be fun to try out the latest brands and kitchen accessories, there are some items that just seem to last forever and rarely need to be replaced–if at all! Below, we have put together a list of the longest-lasting kitchen items that you can plan to buy for life.

1.   Wooden Cutting Board

Between wooden, glass, and plastic cutting boards, the wooden variety is the best option if you are looking for something that will last. This is because you can sand down the wood to reveal a fresh, restored surface after it has been marked with harsh cuts and slashes over time.

Wooden cutting boards do require a good bit of maintenance and care to stay in good condition, though it is worth it when you invest in a high-quality board that you plan to keep for years.

2.   Chef Knife

There are many chef’s knives on the market, but the ones with the longest lifespan tend to have blades that extend through the handle and handles made from aluminum, carbon fiber, stainless steel, or titanium. This means chef’s knives with hollow or wooden handles do not offer the same longevity.

The best way to ensure your chef’s knives will last is to hand wash them only and never put them in the dishwasher. With frequent use, the blade will eventually dull, though you can easily restore the sharp edge with a whetstone.

3.   Cast Iron Skillet

If there is one kitchen item that is designed to last forever, it is the cast iron skillet. In fact, it is commonly accepted that these skillets get better, or more seasoned, with age. Since cast iron is so durable, it can withstand years of high heat and frequent use without cracking, warping, or chipping.

Even if you notice the cast iron has started to rust or corrode, you can scrub it down with salt and a small amount of water until it is restored.

4.   Stand Mixer

You should only have to invest in a high-quality stand mixer once in your life. These items can come with a pretty hefty price tag, but when you buy one from a reputable brand, it can last you for decades!

5.   Wooden Rolling Pin

You may not use a rolling pin as frequently as you do the other items on this list, though it is something that you can buy once and never have to purchase again. Even better, a quality wooden rolling pin is highly affordable, and as long as you dry it well after use and keep it oiled, you will be able to pass down this kitchen item through the generations.
